Artist's Description

Tony – Hebron June 5, 1772
ADVERTISEMENT: Ran-away from the Subscriber the Evening of the 4th Instant a Negro Man named Tony, about 25 Years of Age, about 5 Feet 10 Inches high, well Set and very Black; took with him when he went away, a new coat and Vest of a claret Colour, mixed with red and white, yellow metal Buttons, and one gray ditto some ware, and a Vest Striped red and white; one pair Deer Skin Breeches, and Check’d long trowsers, two Holland Shirts, and one stripe ditto, and one check’d ditto, speaks good English and as he walks lops very one side and the other. Whoever will take up said Negro and secure him in any of his Majesty’s Goals or return him to his Master, shall have Three Dollars Reward, and all reasonable Charges paid by Samuel Gilbert, jun.
N.B. All Masters of Vessels and other Persons are forbid harbouring or carrying off said Negro as they will answer the consequences at their peril Hebron, June 5 1772

Cora Marshall

Cora Marshall, born in Washington, DC, received her B.F.A. from Howard University; Master of Science in Education from Bank Street College of Education with Parsons School of Design; and her doctorate in art from New York University. Dr. Marshall, Professor Emeritus, served as chairperson of the Department of Art at Central Connecticut State University 2006 - 2012. Marshall has exhibited both internationally and nationally including National Conference of Artists; Kumasi, Ghana; A.I.R. Gallery NYC; Skylight Restoration Gallery in Brooklyn; Hammonds House Gallery in Atlanta; Pittsburgh Center for the Arts; Craftery Gallery, in Hartford; the Rosenburg Gallery at NYU; and Picture That, LLC, Stamford, CT with multiple venues.
