Artist's Description

This acrylic painting series began during the time of pandemic. No one knew what to expect. What is safe to do? Where it is safe to go? Who to trust? And so, we wait to allow time to go by, and stay in one place without doing very much, until someone comes, until something that we are expecting happens, or until we can do something. * Clocks are embedded into the compositions to remind us that time lost is never found.

Description Lady in Waiting no. 1

In the painting, Lady in Waiting no. 1, a woman ventures outside alone holding a lily, whose meaning is sometimes associated with rebirth after loss. Is she remembering someone she’s lost or is she lamenting the time lost with friends, family, neighbors, and others? Strong color fields along with the interplay of lights and shadows, create an enigmatic mood. Is this the beginning (of loss) or is it the ending (rebirth)?
