Description
Time Flies (Memento Mori) offers a lesson about the importance of living life to the fullest, while at the same time asking us to consider our mortality. A memento mori artwork is designed to remind us of the shortness and fragility of human life. They became popular in the seventeenth century, in a religious age when almost everyone believed that life on earth was merely preparation for an afterlife. Death is one of the few things that we as humans are guaranteed in life, and this is a reality that unites us all. However, the way we acknowledge this fact is unique to the individual. In this painting, I included an infinity clock, sacred texts, and a skull, which is a symbol of our mortality. And so, what are the lessons from this Time Messenger? Memento Mori (Remember you must die) so, Carpe Diem! (Seize the day!) because Tempus Fugit! (Time flies!)
